André Leon Talley is paying tribute to late designer Oscar de la Renta with a personal exhibition at the Savannah College of Art and Design. The showcase opened on Thursday and displays 50 original looks.
There are historic Met Gala gowns worn by Sarah Jessica Parker, Taylor Swift, Oprah Winfrey and Lauren Santo Domingo, in addition to dresses featured in Vogue on Kirsten Dunst, Beyoncé and Hillary Clinton. The coat that first Lady Laura Bushwore to the 2005 Presidential Inauguration and a beautiful beaded jacket and skirt worn to the 2002 Poland State Dinner were loaned to SCAD for the exhibit. Anna Wintour also dipped into her personal collection, lending an Oscar de la Renta for Balmainsable collared coat and silk flamenco skirt, as well as a custom gold lamé evening gown. The Vogue editor’s daughter, Bee Shaffer, loaned three cocktail dresses. In addition to the SCAD exhibition, Talley is currently working on a book titled “Oscar de la Renta: His Legendary World of Style.” Rizzoli is set to publish the work in September.
