Cate Blanchett rarely opens up about her personal life, but the two-time Oscar winner made an exception while promoting her upcoming movie Carol. During an interview with Variety, the Australian actress revealed that she’s had intimate relationships with women in the past.
It’s not surprising that “Carol” was locked away in Hollywood’s development closet for 15 years. Based on Patricia Highsmith’s scandalous 1952 novel “The Price of Salt,” Todd Haynes’ latest movie is a double whammy by industry standards: it’s headlined by two women, who fall in love with each other.
When asked if this was the first time she played a bisexual, she mused: “On film or in real life?” To clarify, Variety reporter Ramin Setoodeh then asked if she’s had relationships with women. “Yes,” the Cinderella star, 45, replied. “Many times.”
Blanchett and her husband of 17 years, Andrew Upton, are parents to three sons: Dashiell, 13, Roman, 11, and Ignatius, 7. Back in March, the couple adopted baby girl Edith Vivian Patricia.
