Nicholas K Spring/Summer 2017 NYFW

Designers Nicholas and Christopher Kunz said they got their inspiration from the 2014 drama “Theeb,” about a young boy from the Bedouin tribe who must fight to survive after following his older brother into the Wadi Rum desert.

This season, they worked with craftspeople in villages throughout India to create organic cottons, woven fabrics, alpacas with linen, printed desert ikats and vegetable-dyed leathers. The collection featured neutral draped pants layered with flowing capes and oversized floppy hats. The jewelry, created by sustainable jeweler Lisa Linhardt using only recycled metals and gold, had exaggerated proportions meant to simulate desert hills. Even the makeup was meant to mirror the theme, with a silver-lined eye aptly dubbed “the mirage.”
