Karl Lagerfeld took Chanel’s 2017 Métiers d’Art show home to Ritz in Paris. “The Ritz Hotel Is My Home” – Gabrielle Chanel. Coco was a resident of the hotel for 37 years and the apartment she lived in still bears her name. Chanel’s earlier Métiers d’Art shows traveled in Rome, Mumbai, Edinburgh, Dallas and Salzburg. Officially titled ‘Paris Cosmopolite’, the show featured some runway debuts from Lily-Rose Depp, who opened the show, to Pharrell Williams along with the runway return of Cara Delevingne, who closed the show.
“You have to walk as if you are walking into a chic restaurant, convinced that you are the most beautiful and chicest woman in the world — which you are,” Lagerfeld said. “For me, it’s a certain idea of Paris: Gabrielle Chanel, the Ritz, the Hemingway Bar. This is the kind of Paris everyone would like to bring back,” the designer said. “We live in another world. But you can make a collection that is an evocation in the modern spirit of today.”
The runway opened up with lean jackets, fluted skirts and plus fours the color of heavy cream. All the looks were topped off with flower crowns in peach, red, midnight blue and pretty pinks, some came in black with birdcage veils.
