Elie Saab’s ready-to-wear Fall 2017 collection was inspired by the magical and romantic ballet Giselle. “I wanted something rich,” he explained. “Maybe it’s less commercial than before and more dramatic.”
There was some kind of dark romanticism with gowns made from velvet, feathers, ribbon and lace – against the set of dark shards of blue light. Although there were some ethereal embroidered tulle, organza and lace dresses. The lily flower appeared on chiffon, guipure, quilted leather and as ultra-light embroidery. Symbolizing the souls of the departed, the lily flower is emblematic of Giselle’s tragic, otherworldly tale of youth, beauty and sentiment.
The standouts were the outerwear – velvet capes that hung off one shoulder and coats with extravagant fur collars and cuffs.
