Raf Simons presented his second runway collection for Calvin Klein at 205 West 39th Street, Calvin Klein’s longtime address and recently renamed, at his behest, Collection label. For the new season, Simons found inspiration in American cinema.
The setting for the show, “Sweet Dreams,”was inspired by the Hollywood horror genre the American nightmare, and the all-powerful American dream, Simons’ show notes informed.
“It’s about American horror and American beauty,” says Raf Simons about the spring collection. “Fashion tries to hide the horror and embrace only beauty. But they are both a part of life. This collection is a celebration of that: a celebration of American life.”
Simons mused broadly and brilliantly on silhouette and materials. The denim, quilt, color-blocked Western shirts and cocktail dresses adorned with fringe.
The 16-year-old Kaia Gerber, Cindy Crawford’s daughter, made her runway debut at the show.
