GIVENCHY PRE-FALL 2018

Artistic director Clare Waight Keller presented her first Givenchy pre-fall 2018 collection for men and women. True to the designer’s preference for personal stories and intimate settings, the look book of this pre-fall collection was photographed in a private mansion in Kent region, England, and outdoors on the same property. The styling emphasizes the authenticity of the poses and attitudes, and allows the clothes to express their accuracy in the real world. As in the first Clare Waight Keller show for Givenchy, the wardrobe of this Pre-Fall collection dilutes borders: men wear embroidered evening clothes and women structured silhouettes with angular shoulders.
On this intimate background, an urban atmosphere runs throughout the collection. Key pieces for women and men seem to be able to associate and exchange fluidly. Structured shaping, sweaters adorned with the 4G stylized emblem and pointed boots for men and women are at the heart of the collection.
Color-blocking, in red, amber and black, on the clothes and on the new GV Bucket bag, sets the tone for the season.
The spring-summer 2018 collection is extended here through leather pants, coats three quarter length and a new trench coat. Two graphic prints are added: a leopard print revisited in red, and a fleur-de-lys print, for example in black on a fluid ivory dress mid-long. For evening, the emphasis is on sexy elegance, with richly detailed pieces embellished with metallic embroidery, velvet on lace, faceted nails and pleated tulle. Coats, essential pieces of the collection, long and short, propose variations on a pattern to black and white herringbone and are made of sheepskin and / or faux fur. Elsewhere, Clare Waight Keller revisits classic ivory sheep skin, modeled on the bomber, or sprinkled with military-style details on marine wool coats. Among the strongest pieces of the season, there are new variations of the traditional 4G emblem (sweaters, accessories) and Givenchy Paris t-shirts imagined on the model of rock group logo t-shirts. The jewels focus on the signs of the zodiac: a series of pieces made by hand, on the theme of astrology, with in particular oversized earrings.  Urban influences and Couture sensibility make this first Pre-Fall collection a testimony to the new Givenchy attitude.
