Designer Of The Week: Hedi Slimane

Hedi-SlimaneHedi Slimane is one of the most charismatic designers of the modern fashion world. He has been named the new Artistic and Creative director of Céline, and will present his first Céline catwalk show in Paris in September. Hedi replaces Phoebe Philo who quit the house this autumn.

Hedi Slimane

Slimane was born to a Tunisian father and an Italian mother and in 1968 in the 19th arrondissement of Paris. At 11, he discovered photography, received his first camera and learned black and white darkroom printing. At 16, without fashion in mind, Slimane started making his own clothes. He studied Art History at the École du Louvre and completed a tailor apprenticeship at a men’s designer house. Early in his career, he visited the offices of Le Monde, as he wished to become a journalist and reporter.

The Frenchman began his career as an assistant in fashion marketing at Yves Saint Laurent in the 1990s, quickly rising through the ranks to become a designer, before he shot to prominence following his creative directorship of Dior Homme, and his popularisation of a skinny silhouette in menswear. In 2012, he returned to Saint Laurent to helm the brand’s womenswear and menswear labels. In his four years in the position, Slimane’s creative directorship divided opinion, but his LA youth culture-driven collections commanded the attention of the global fashion industry and drove stellar financial results. In April 2016 he departed the storied Parisian house.

Coldplay, Beyoncé and Bruno Mars perform Super Bowl halftime show

Coldplay rocks super bowl 50 halftime performance alongside with Beyonce and Bruno Mars.

The British rock band, led by frontman Chris Martin, didn’t show any sign of nerves throughout the unforgettable, colorful performance, which featured stellar appearances from Beyoncé and Bruno Mars.

As the show faded out, Beyonce’s face appeared on the screen – announcing a world “Formation” tour for 2016.

Watch Beyonce’s New Music Video ‘Formation’

Beyoncé slays in surprise new music video titled ‘formation’, which delivers a powerful message against discrimination. Beyoncé stuns in the designs like Gucci, Zimmerman, Chanel, Rosie Assoulin, Alessandra Rich and more.

“I’m so reckless when I rock my Givenchy dress. I’m so possessive, so I rock his Roc necklaces.”

The singer’s daughter, Blue Ivy, also makes an appearance multiple times throughout the politically-charged, New Orleans-set video. It begins with Beyonce on top of a police car in a flooded street and later cuts to a man holding a newspaper with Martin Luther King Jr.’s face on it with the title “The Truth.” Later on, a young hooded black boy dances in front of a line of SWAT officers before the video cuts to a graffitied wall with the words “stop shooting us” tagged on it.

Beyoncé is set to perform at Sunday’s Super Bowl at Levi’s Stadium in Santa Clara, California, alongside with Coldplay.

The Broad

Yesterday I visited the Broad contemporary art museum in downtown LA and it was incredible. A little bit about the museum- The bi-level, 120,000 square-foot building is founded by philanthropists and art collectors Eli and Edye Broad of Los Angeles, and holds over 2,000 works of art. The post-war collection is one of the largest in the world and boasts artists such as Jeff Koons, Cy Twombly, Damien Hirst, Yayoi Kusama and Andy Warhol, to name a few.  This museum is very beautiful with bright white walls all around. The architectural design of this building’s interior and exterior is very unique. See my outfit details below.

My Hawaiian Vacation

Just landed and immediately started blogging, I really miss this. The Hawaiian island of Maui is a destination for true nature lovers. It was as magical as we were told. We (my husband, my baby girl and I) went all over the island and some of our favorite places are Kihei, Lahaina, Paia, Wailea and from the beaches Maalea and Makena, of course the amazing road of Hana and black sand beaches, The road to Hana has over 600 switchbacks, 46 single-lane bridges, and countless waterfalls. It takes a good three hours or more to make the complete drive. Maui has world’s best sunrises and sunsets. Its name means “House of the Rising Sun”. We also visited the Maui Ocean Center, whcih is an aquarium and marine science center located in Maalaea,  It includes exhibits on coral reef habitats, sea turtles, sharks, and humpback whales. Hula dancing- it is synonymous with Hawaii. It’s more than shaking hips. Hand movements are a key aspect of the dance as they’re used to represent words in the chant that accompanies the dance.  You can’t leave Maui without drinkg a fresh coconut water and trying their fish tacos. The best tacos are at Coconuts Fish Cafe. With mahi mahi fish, mango salsa, coleslaw and white corn tortilla.

Packing For Hawaii

When packing for a tropical paradise like Hawaii, comfort is the key. Casual wear will fit in well with Hawaii’s island vibes: like shorts, tank tops or t-shirts, and light dresses. Beach essentials include swimsuits, a cover-up, flip flops, beach bag and a hat. Oh and of course sunscreen! Hawaii’s proximity to the equator makes the sun particularly strong. Check the outfit below with featured details.
We are heading to the beautiful island of Maui, it is a part of the Hawaiian island chain and known for its beach resorts. I am going to share my ootds and a few of my favorite things to do on the beautiful Hawaiian island. So come back sometime soon to check them out.

My Summer Sleep Essentials

Teaming up with ParachuteHome here I am sharing my summer sleep essentials. Your bedroom reflects who you are and the things you love. It should be a calming and comfortable haven. As it is summer, we need to find ways to lighten up our rooms. During these warm months there is nothing better than jumping into a cool bed with incredible luxury linens, made of lightweight cotton (Egyptian or otherwise). I’m amazed with ParachuteHome’s good products and the most important after checking out their website I learnt about their charitable activities. Parachute has partnered up with Nothing But Nets, an organization that provides safe sleep to those in need.

Speaking about my sleep essentials: In winter it’s good to have a set of warm flannel sheets and perhaps an extra blanket on the bench at the foot of your bed. But it’s important for me to change the bedding and linens to match the season. You can transform your bed into a cloud of comfort with these lightweight duvets from ParachuteHome. Compared to their good quality they are pretty affordable. The same goes for their sheets. Switch a cozy flannel set with a lightweight cotton one during the summer. Light cotton sheets can keep you cooler at night. I love having fresh flowers in my bedroom. Love the aroma that spreads around. A good scented candle is also a must have. Research shows that the scent of lavender, which I simply adore, eases anxiety and insomnia. It sure provides me a relaxing good night sleep. Make sure to check on Parachute’s lavender scented candle.
